Brigandine Abyss

Once upon a time, the world was saved by the Brigandine. This arcane armor, forged by the great sorcerer Lunadea, brought an end to the ambitions of the Abyssloa Empire. 200 years have since passed, and the continent’s current greatest superpower, the Kingdom of Solginat, has grown into a disquieting presence. In response, the rulers of various nations, spearheaded by the queen of Mysteine - a realm that carries on Lunadea’s will - gather together to issue a formal denunciation...

  • I was incredibly excited for Brigandine Abyss, but the team didn't stick the landing. Things I liked: A new entry in the Brigandine series. Things I disliked: 1. The story. I didn't feel invested in anything that was happening. To avoid spoilers, I will just say the structure of what I played didn't mesh well. 2. Anime style art. The anime scenes are very low budget. The in game art is passable. In short, if you're a longtime fan of Brigandine I would highly recommend the demo before purchasing. For new fans looking to get into an Srpg this might be accessible, but I would Recommend Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave instead.
  • Old school strategy games for not the fainted heart, and this is coming from someone who played Forsena on PS1 sinces release, played Grand Edition and played Runesia. You really need to understand the mechanics, every move is like on a chessboard and that is why people are whining, because they don't understand the elemental affinities, rally mechanics and how to combine units abilities. Brigandine is not FFT or Fire Emblem, those games are easy with minimal strategy. It's like saying Brigandine Abyss is for adults while FFT is for kids or younger audience.
  • Amazing game! Don’t pay attention to most of critics, if you know the tactical genre you know what you’re in for. This is a very niche of the niche game, you have to want to conquer the world with a personalized army of monsters to be able to enjoy it. If your dream has always been to be inside of an anime isekai about strategy (Overlord, Reincarnated as a Slime etc), this is for us friend.

  • Brigandine Abyss lost some of the series identity in exchange for its efforts to try and find a broader audience. I don’t know if it will quite get there in the end. It’s easy to play and perfectly competent across both strategy and tactics, but there are so many other games out there that do that, and unlike the essential Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, Abyss doesn’t have its own hook. With that being said, unless you are specifically comparing it to the earlier Brigandine games, the depth of characters, monsters and strategic options in Abyss is genuinely compelling so who knows- perhaps this will find a new audience after all.
  • Brigandine Abyss is a deeply involved SRPG that is here to weed out the strategy dilettantes and reward dedicated. The fun here is in the planning, which is good, but the lack of focus on the actual turn-based combat means many will not stay with it for the hundreds of gameplay hours it offers.
  • Brigandine: Abyss is a good game. It could have been so much more. The foundation is excellent: the strategic system works, the army management is deep, the customization offers many possibilities, and the six campaigns guarantee a truly impressive amount of content. The problem is that all this depth is weighed down by an initially cumbersome interface, an uneven difficulty, excessively slow combat, some imperfectly balanced mechanics, and a structure that, despite the six campaigns, inevitably ends up repeating the same experience over and over again. And then there's the lack of Italian, which is a real drag for a title with this amount of content. Those who love old-school tactical RPGs, however, will find plenty to enjoy.

Criticism

  • Brigandine Abyss is a disappointing return for the series—a dumbed-down strategy game with poor visuals, unfair mechanics, and a monotonous campaign that loses everything fans loved about previous installments. Many elements are mediocre, while others are simply bad.
