  • Derivative to the point where it borders on parody or a troll attempt. The biggest problems with entertainment media is how hyperderivative everything is now and Blue Skies is the perfect example. You can't even point out any positives about it because you would just point out positives about another game franchise that it copies and that you should play instead. Iinspiration is great and we need more of it, but this is not inspiration, this is the death of creativity.

  • Wild Blue Skies captures that classic Star Fox charm at a budget price, but lacks the refinement that made Nintendo’s classic so memorable. The often-unfair gameplay can frustrate, yet there’s still some old-school fun to be had for the right price.
  • Bowie and pals’ adventure successfully impersonates the Star Fox 64 experience, but it’s an underwhelming impression. Nostalgic moments and satisfying action appear occasionally, but it pays homage to a fault and doesn’t find space to present its own personality. It has the unfortunate timing of releasing and being compared to this year’s Star Fox on Switch 2 – an excellent remake of Star Fox 64. But even if I did not have that game in my immediate memory, I would be hard-pressed to identify anywhere that it has improved on the genre with design lessons learned since 1997, or even risen to meet the ones that already existed even 30 years ago.
  • Wild Blue Skies is a solid homage to Star Fox 64 overall. It's visuals are fantastic and it's gameplay controls well and is fun overall. Unlike other recent rail shooters however, the game doesn't do enough to step out of the shadow of Star Fox, nor does it really seem to try to.
