Praise
- Ground Zero Hero is an addictive experience full of zany humor. It takes the Vampire Survivors concept and adds its own twist along plenty of chatoic on-screen action.
- A weird, wild, and wacky take on the Vampire Survivors formula that works out better than expected.
- While at face value, Ground Zero Hero could easily be dismissed as a Vampire Survivors clone, it steps out of the safety of the shelter to add interesting mechanics, along with its unique art style, to set it apart. Sure, it doesn’t have quite the same depth of weapon evolution and combinations as something like Vampire Survivors, but I don’t think it needs to. Instead, it has its own wonderfully addictive bullet-heaven survival gameplay, wrapped up in a ridiculous Australian apocalypse that is packed with personality.
Criticism
- The game has a few nice ideas (comedic tone, day/night system, side objectives), but it sinks under the weight of a poor UI, terrible readability, a lackluster roguelite loop, and repetitive gameplay.
