Praise
- Neon Abyss 2 is a solid addition to today's indie roguelike scene. It manages to stand out thanks to its fun and frantic combat, exploration that encourages experimenting with different builds using randomly discovered items, and challenging enemy design. While its overall structure doesn't feel particularly innovative and its guidance can sometimes be unclear, it's still an experience well worth checking out.
- Neon Abyss 2 is a beautiful sequel, with bolder visuals, flashier weapons and more game-breaking strategies. Unfortunately, the difficulty drops fast once you find the right item combination. The flashy gameplay is fun, but finding a game-breaking strategy happens a bit too quickly. The light show it creates is a joy to behold, yet I couldn’t shake the feeling that I, not the bosses, was the overpowered god of this neon world. A future patch could balance the item drops nicely. Neon Abyss 2 is a great continuation of the franchise that would benefit greatly from some balancing updates. For now, I’ll just go ahead and kill… kill… kill… as I mow through waves of enemies in the variety of game modes on offer. And maybe shoot some hoops with friends in between.
- For better or for worse, Neon Abyss 2 feels very much like more Neon Abyss. But some meaningful changes in progression and permanent upgrades, along with a whole new way to play, make this zany roguelike just as gloriously addictive as the first game ever was.
