Criticism

  • Don't give this greedy-ass developer any money. Just get it by other means for free. Honestly, the game is so boring that even pirating it feels more like a **** **** visual design, similar to a **** mobile game. Even the first encounter looks more appealing than this. They've literally sidelined Sam. He's not even the main focus on the poster of the game.Cringe millennial dialogue that won't **** get any better, even with the new censorship for the Harpy **** the gameplay might be the worst part of this **** show. It feels clunky and soulless. Guns have zero impact, and the audio design is **** somehow, these weirdos decided to add grinding to a Serious Sam game.

What critics said

Praise

  • All the pieces of an enjoyable multiplayer roguelike are here - not least Serious Sam, himself - but the edges haven’t been smoothed off enough for the big picture to come together.
  • Shatterverse is fun when it manages to enrich its roguelite recipe and the builds finally take direction, but before getting to that point it takes a lot of patience and the willingness to overlook several uninspired elements.

Criticism

  • Serious Sam: Shatterverse is an interesting attempt to bring the action-focused series into the multiplayer roguelite genre, but it falls short due to insignificant upgrades, poor solo balance, a frustrating weapon system, and broken matchmaking. Without Croteam’s involvement, it feels like a low-quality cash grab aimed at a passionate niche.
  • While the developers of Serious Sam: Shatterverse claim that “each run opens the door to new strategies and limitless possibilities”, it’s just not the case. Most runs are very similar, especially when you get the same locations, the same challenges, and the same enemies run after run. Friends add a lot of value, but don’t expect everyone to want to keep playing. Cutting through swarms of aliens with newer and bigger guns is thrilling, but it comes a little too late. It’s an issue when the game’s bugs, of which there are many, provide some much-needed chaos. Similar to the concept of the shatterverse itself, this game is a mishmash of different systems, set pieces and jokes that don’t quite work. Won’t someone save this universe from Uber Mediocrity?
  • Serious Sam: Shatterverse is an incredible pitch which should be a genuine joy to play. However, it's not. The progression is awful, the moment-to-moment gameplay is okay at best, and it's got more than it's fair share of bugs as well. It's just not what it could have been. This is a game that could be saved by patches, and I hope it is, but on release, it's just not fun.
