Play as either the North Vietnamese Army or US Armed Forces and choose from one of 19 specialised roles within a 50-strong team made up of multiple squads. Join or lead infantry, recon, armour, mortar squads and helicopter units, using communication and teamwork with your fellow players to identify objectives and ruthlessly exploit your opponent’s weaknesses. Follow the chain of command and work together as a team to meet your objectives and achieve victory.

Praise

  • Excellent tactical FPS and one of the most impressive representations of jungle warfare seen in the genre. It keeps the strong foundations of the original Hell Let Loose—teamwork, communication, positioning, and large-scale battles—while giving them a completely different feeling through the Vietnam **** atmosphere is its strongest point. Fighting through dense jungles, thick vegetation, military bases, and rivers creates intense and immersive battles, with river combat adding even more variety. There is still room for improvement, especially with a larger weapon selection and more asymmetrical mechanics between factions. However, the game already captures the Vietnam War atmosphere extremely well and offers a unique style of gameplay.Absolutely recommended for fans of tactical shooters and immersive large-scale warfare.
  • I have already had a lot of fun playing Hell Let Loose Vietnam, however it is clear there still a lot of work that should be done on this game. While I personally find it runs fine on PS5 others I have played with have had issues. Absolutely blast to play with friends, hopefully the issues get solved soon.
  • Amazing game best teamplay ever for a game , just some bugs need to fixed but this is also better then arma

Criticism

  • Absolutely atrocious. 10 steps backwards on every aspect from the original. Terrible graphics, insanely bad sound design. Pixelated everything. Obvious cash grab scam to recoup money after purchasing the IP. Studio needs to be investigated for delivering whatever this game is compared to what was promised. 0/10
  • This game ****. Not even a campaign. Only online and that means you gotta wait an hour for everyone to get online to play. A campaign could have made this game so much better. Disappointed
  • If you treat it like CoD or BF you will not have a good time. Tactics and communication matters. HLL fills a big gap between arcade and milsim. Enjoying this a lot so far.

What critics said

Praise

  • Hell Let Loose: Vietnam delivers one of the most realistic depictions of the conflict to date, though its slow tempo and brutal realism won't suit everyone. Ultimately, it is a methodical, tactical shooter, one that demands patience and strategy, but deeply rewards those who bring both.
  • While it requires a real commitment to fully enjoy, Hell Let Loose Vietnam is a tactical FPS unlike many others. You don’t simply play a war game; you virtually live it through the eyes of a soldier, taking part in intense and demanding 50v50 battles.

Criticism

  • Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is the latest installment in the Hell Let Loose franchise developed by the Expression Games. Although the installment provides an identical gameplay experience to the original, the new gameplay features greatly complement the Vietnam War theme. There are new roles across the six unit types, helicopters exclusive to the US Force, tunnels exclusive to the NVA Force, and weight capacity for progression purposes. The overall environment of HLLV is claustrophobic and atmospheric, but it can be a struggle to locate enemies through the dense foliage. Moreover, with the current state of animation bugs and poor optimization, it might be best to give it some time.

Mixed

  • Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a step up from the previous title, at least when it comes to the gameplay, map design and interesting role system. However, it does have optimization problems and bugs, which make it less of an appealing option for those that are accustomed to the polished, original Hell Let Loose. That doesn’t mean there is no fun to be had here. Quite the opposite, actually. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is extremely fun to play, very intense, and it does an excellent job at offering those amazing wartime moments you only see in movies. It’s not a mainstream game, nor does it want to be. Instead, it aims to bring what made Hell Let Loose great in the Vietnam setting and further provide you with an excellent, more hardcore FPS experience.
