  • One of my favorite experiences in any media. The art design is jaw dropping, the story is emotionally engaging, traversal is worth the price of admission. Gameplay is very fun since they rebalanced it. It just needs a Photomode!
  • This game is undoubtedly the best title I have experienced this year: a stunningly beautiful story, masterful gameplay and combat, exceptional music and sound design, exemplary atmosphere and graphics, and—above all—unparalleled level design. It is an extraordinary, unforgettable work in every respect, and as I mentioned, it stands out as my game of the year.

Criticism

  • making the sequel to one of the best worlds made in gaming history by the undisputed Sam Lake is not an easy task. I totally understand this. I totally understand that this is not a Sam Lake rather a Remedy game. However I came to this with hope for marvel and got nothing but disappointment. Control Resonant fails in all the possible ways. Combat is a chore, almost like washing dishes, repetitive and boring. Story doesn't leave any room for breathing. Sound design has turned into a USA dubstep rave and visuals are as maximalistic as it goes. All of which is in stark contrast with the first installment.
  • I think this is one of the best games of the year. An incredible experience. In my opinion, it starts off a bit weak narratively, but as you progress, it simply leaves you jaw-dropped. The traversal is among the best ever seen in gaming. The combat—considering it’s their first attempt at this style—is actually really good. The world-building is just amazing. Highly recommended.
  • The story is confusing and makes no sense, but the gameplay feels great. Too bad there's not much move variety, but it's still a really good game!! Great graphics, pity the environmental destruction got downgraded—it's not quite on par with Control 1.

  • Control Resonant makes your last LSD trip feel like a shot of cough syrup. New York is a true work of art, with buildings twisting into each other in ways that are impossible to put into words. This is Remedy at its absolute best: in storytelling, visuals and, finally, combat too. [Issue#375, p.56]
  • CONTROL Resonant is a prime example of how a sequel can realise the full potential of a formula. While Remedy had undeniably succeeded in building a remarkable world with the first game, its many shortcomings arguably limited that world's impact. With this second instalment, however, the Finnish studio pushes past what we could have imagined, not only fixing most of its predecessor's flaws but also bringing in just the right amount of new ideas. The result is an adventure that is at once distinctive, gripping and impressive ; the kind that confirms Remedy as one of the most creative studios in the industry.
  • Control Resonant is packed with familiar ingredients that combine into something completely unique. Inception-like level design, a mix of different media woven into the gameplay, and writing that twists the everyday into the abnormal add up to a one-of-a-kind experience. That experience is, however, held back by a fairly run-of-the-mill combat system.

Criticism

  • Control Resonant proves unequivocally that Remedy understands the medium. Somehow, in crafting its most video-game-ass video game to date, it's managed to not just retain but amplify its own, peculiar and fascinating brand of storytelling. This is not only an excellent Control sequel, but a damned good character action game in its own right.
