Marvel's Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine is an action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games, the acclaimed studio behind the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Created in collaboration with Marvel Games, it delivers an all-new original story based on the legendary comic book character. Logan thought he was finished being Wolverine, but the past wasn’t finished with him yet. Three years after walking out on his team, Wolverine rejoins the mutant task force, Team X, in their darkest hour. Driven by his fanatical belief in human superiority, Bolivar Trask is kidnapping mutants. Only Wolverine has what it takes to save them. In his fight for the future, Wolverine must team up with fellow mutants across the globe through locations like Canada, Japan, and the Marvel island nation of Madripoor. With the fate of humans and mutants hanging in the balance, Logan knows the world needs a hero; however, they’ll have to settle for Wolverine.

Praise

  • Such an action pact adventure. From start to finish the story keeps you locked in.
  • Such a awesome/beautiful game! Cant wait for dlc and wolverine 2 insomniac Games thank you so much!!

Criticism

  • Not what I was promised years ago. The game is repetitive, history shallow and the characters have few relation to the source (and the design is nonsense). Logan sentimental…’comon! Combat is the only thing cool about the game. I finished it in 12h bit at least 3h were cutscenes so the game is smaller than we thought. If you can wait it to be free on psn wait, anything else is burning your money!

Mixed

  • Bad as a Wolverine story, bad as an action game, and even bad just as a movie. This game is just one big dud. There's truly nothing here beyond mashing attack and swapping costumes. Might be good for an edgy 13 year old who hates being challenged by games. Anyone else will likely walk away underwhelmed.

What critics said

Praise

  • Marvel's Wolverine nails the brutality and personality of Logan, backed by outstanding visuals and satisfying combat. However, repetitive encounters, limited enemy variety, restrictive level design, occasional bugs and an even story prevent Insomniac's latest game from reaching the heights we expected. It's a good Wolverine game, but after such a long wait, we expected much more.
  • Marvel’s Wolverine is an enjoyable title and a solid pick for die-hard fans, but that’s about as far as it goes. While there is nothing glaringly wrong with Insomniac’s latest effort, it falls well short of the standards set by a studio of this caliber. Ultimately, it’s average in every respect, and given the immense talent and budget behind it, average simply isn't enough.

Criticism

  • You have to wonder why Insomniac didn’t just stick to what it does best: open-world games like “Marvel’s Spider-Man”. Because other studios simply do this kind of linear adventure much better. “Marvel’s Wolverine” isn’t a bad game. Technically, it’s impressive what they’ve managed to squeeze out of the six-year-old PS5, and at its best moments, you really feel like an unbeatable superhero. But from a game that costs 70 to 80 euros and took a developer of this caliber five years to make, you’d expect it to be one of the defining games of the decade. And it simply falls short of that in too many areas.

Mixed

  • There’s little left to say of interest, I wasn’t just being glib when I claimed the baggage of Wolverine is much more interesting than Wolverine itself. Not good enough to offer an interesting point of praise, not bad enough to interestingly dissect, Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t the best at what it does, but what it does still isn’t very nice. Did I do the comic book reference right? I'm more of a Beano reader.
