Praise
- Game of the year, good history good gameplay, mushashi the king of aura. One of the best games i ever played in my life
- This game is of extremely high quality, both graphically and in terms of combat, setting, story, equipment, and characters. It's not as easy as some have said; it has its share of challenges, and you will die a few times. Capcom has outdone itself with this new Onimusha. I think DLC would be very welcome. I'd like to see a greater variety of armor, focused on famous samurai. The option to use other weapons would also be an incredible addition, but overall, for me, the game is 10/10.
Criticism
- This game starts off amazing and about half way it gets very repetitive literally fighting the same boss 8 times gets exhausting. The final boss was disappointing and has one of the most annoying grab moves with a mini cut scene you can’t skip . The open world is very boring and enemies lack variety and are docile for the most part . Graphics are amazing gameplay feels smooth the story is ok .
- The combat is incredibly satisfying, and the presentation is absolutely amazing, but the side quests are just too boring.
Mixed
- Just terrible combat. Too unforgiving to be fun and not enough non boss elements to feel immmersed. One battle after the next without reprieve makes this a no win game. There should be information or gameplay informing anyone that this game is not like its predecessors. Thoroughly unenjoyable.

Praise
- With Onimusha Way of the Sword, Capcom could have easily messed things up, especially after leaving the franchise dormant for so long. But instead of turning it into an open-world game or a Soulslike, Capcom went back to basics and built the experience around what really matters: the sheer pleasure of wielding a sword. Sure, the writing is pretty standard, the open areas can be tedious, and some side content lacks variety, but all of that quickly becomes secondary once the combat kicks in. Chaining parries, landing a perfectly timed Issen, watching souls swirl around Miyamoto Musashi and taking down bosses that force you to master every mechanic is exactly what makes Onimusha feel special again. And then there’s Musashi, a charismatic, funny and slightly arrogant hero who gives the adventure plenty of personality. In short, Capcom absolutely nailed it.
- An intense, grueling and addictive experience that thrives on a brilliant combat system, especially in boss fights. Though the game overstays its welcome by a bit, the gameplay and story highs far exceed its problems.
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword isn't just an excellent series revival from a company that has seemingly mastered them, taking a proper understanding of the early entries' appeal and matching it perfectly to modern sensibilities. It's also just plainly the best action game this year, and probably for the past few years.
Criticism
- While repetitive side activities and weak non-combat pacing occasionally stall its momentum, the game completely makes up for it with top-tier counter-based combat and thrilling swordplay. Despite a lack of compelling replayability, it delivers pure satisfaction the moment you draw your blade.
